Dev Update? Sort of
So it's been more than half year since the last update, what's been going on?
I'm going to keep it brief but life in 2024 has hit me really hard, the first half of this year was miserable, and I would rather keep the specifics private, but one thing of good eventually happened, I found myself a new job, and while I was searching for a new job I had time to reflect about where this project is going and it lead me to two conclusions.
1. Godot is great, and is going to become even greater, but it's not quite there right now, I love what this engine stands for but what I wanted this project to be and what Godot can do right now are a bit at odds with each other, it's obviously not impossible, I have the proof of concept available to play, but at times it feels like I'm figthing against the engine to make things work.
2. The scale of this project is kinda of insane and I'm only one person that also works a full time job, the required time and effort to see this through is hard to fit in my current life.
So what's going to happen moving forward?
This project is on hold, and if it comes back, it might not even come back in Godot, I've been thinking of changing this game to Unreal, as it's toolset aligns better with what I want this game to be, at least for now, Godot keeps getting updates and once I come back it might already be in a place where I don't have to feel like I'm at odds with the engine.
For the time being however, I've been working on a smaller Hololive project, with a scope that sounds reasonable for someone working a full time job. I'm not going to show anything just yet, I want it to be in a more playable state, and by playable I don't just mean you can boot up the exe and things show, I want to reach a certain ratio of complete before I show anything, so until then I'll be silent for a little longer.
Best Regards,
Daiki
